The Amazing BERNINA Binding Attachment #88
In this class we will explore the use of the Binder Attachment #88 to finish off the edges of a quilt sandwich. (Note that this is a skill building class and will not result in a finished project.) These techniques can certainly be used on other items, like place mats and in garments. But in this case, we will be primarily discussing the tool’s use in quilt making.
We will begin by cutting and preparing bias strips, learn how to correctly attach the Binder to our sewing machines and proceed to sew! Included topics are mitering corners, sewing on a curve and finishing off the tails.

Your sewing machine and its usual notions (bobbins, thread snips, seam ripper straight pins.
BERNINA Binder Attachment #88 (For use with quilts, we recommend the 38mm size.)
If you do not have a Binder Attachment, please call Thread Play to reserve one to use in class.
Foot # 95 or 95C
Patchwork foot (#37, 57 or 97 variation according to your machine and your preference.)
Stiletto
A small quilt sandwich made from 2 fat quarters (FQ) with batting in between, and held together with basic quilting stitches, perhaps something like a large asterisk. Do not trim the edges of this piece.
1 FQ for the binding
1 spool of cotton, 50wt thread to match your binding fabric. (When in doubt, go duller and darker.)
Optional: A square rotary cutting ruler about 12”.
